Simple and in Season – April now open

It’s exciting that spring seems to have finally arrived in England. Usually, in April, I’d be on the look out for British asparagus. The traditional date for the start of the asparagus season is 23rd April, which is Saint George’s Day – so we might get a couple of recipes into April but you might be more likely to find British asparagus in May/June. Other things to eat right now are purple sprouting broccoli, rhubarb, watercress, you might start to find some wild nettles and sorrel. Don’t forget that fish, too, can be in season – look out for mussels, salmon and plaice.

Thank you to the lovely Louisa at Chez Foti for hosting a brilliant round of Simple and in Season in March and for such kind words about each of the posts entered. The round up of posts and recipes is really well worth a visit.

Finally, a special thank you to Amma’s Umma for designing a lovely new badge for us for Simple and in Season! I hope you like it.

  1. Hi Ren, Just entered an asparagus recipe but I am a bit worried it should fall into May’s challenge rather than Aprils… But I can’t find May’s challenge to link up to. Can you let me know if I need to change my entry? Thanks x
