Giveaway: Win a Crock-pot ‘Cook and Carry’ Original Slow Cooker (RRP £49.99)
It’s always exciting to start the day with a fantastic giveaway and I think this one is perfect for a cold and rainy winter morning! My slow cooker is on already and this evening we’ll be tucking into a wonderful leek, lamb and pearl barley stew – one of our favourites.
Winter cooking speaks to me most of warming of soups and stews, with warming curries and chillis, padded out with beans, pulses or lentils, being very high on my comfort list. This is the time of year that my Crock-Pot Slow Cooker gets used the most, although really, this piece of kitchen kit is extremely handy at any time of the year for anyone who wants to let something else do all the hard work for you. With our time becomming increasingly pinched, the slow cooker has made something of a comeback. Although there are other makes, Crock-Pot are one of the leading brands in this arena, offering now a whole range of slow cookers to meet our needs, including manual cookers with clip on lids, programmable cookers with timers and some that can be used on direct heat, such as the Sauté slow cooker.
Crock-Pots come in different sizes, but if you are aiming to feed a family you’ll want to go for a 5.7-6.5 litre capacity pot. You can not only save time by using a Crock-Pot to cook, but also money, as cheaper cuts of meat, such as stewing meat, shanks or shoulder are ideal for slow cooking and seasonal vegetables, such as root vegetables, leeks or potatoes can be thrown in for pennies.

I would love a new slow cooker! My old one was second hand but much used- from keeping hot dogs warm at the school fair to cooking one-pot meals to take to my elderly, registered blind mother an hours drive away. It was broken earlier this year en route to my sister’s house- luckily there was no food in it at the time. The pot rolled out of the back of the car leaving its casing behind and fell with a juicy crash onto the car park tarmac- the end of an era! : ( (btw I have liked this on Facebook as bobhilary)
