Leon Restaurants are a chain of thirteen branches, the first one having been opened in Carnaby Street. They are owned by John Vincent and Henry Dimbleby and like all good foodie things, Leon cook books soon followed. There are now 4 Leon cook books (book 3 reviewed here) in the main series, and now, they have released some Little Leons – Naturally Fast Recipes – each containing 64 pages and 40 colour photographs. The Little Leon series includes –
-
Breakfast & Brunch
-
Brownies, Bars & Muffins
-
Smoothies, Juices & Cocktails
-
Soups, Salads & Snacks.
The Leon ‘trademark’ is to offer “naturally fast food” – so there are plenty of wheat, dairy or sugar-free options in baking, super-charged breakfasts, flavour-packed soups, power-smoothies and even a couple of cocktails – including a Vodka Espresso hit!
Hot Chocolate is offered five ways with Mexican, Swedish and Jamaican twists, smoothies are charged with seeds. You can even try sugar-free vanilla cupcakes and vegan vanilla icing if the mood takes you. I’m torn between making Little Leon Breakfast & Brunch my favourite – particularly for the buckwheat Saturday Pancakes – or the Little Leon Brownies, Bars & Muffins for the Salmon & Dill Muffins. There’s definitely something for everyone in this little collection.
Little Leons are published by Conran Octopus and are priced at £6.99 each.

Low Cal French Toast : made with either a lovely brioche or for a healthier version, slice of granary bread! Mix some sweetener and cinnamon with two eggs and coat both sides of the bread/brioche generously with the beaten egg/cinnamon/sweetener mix. Spray frying pan with some low cal cooking oil spray and gently fry both sides until the egg mix is well cooked.
Place on plate – top with summer berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or other soft fruits, drizzle with Acacia honey and enjoy!

I’m afraid I love unhealthy options for breakfast like croissant with jam the best. But I don’t often eat it. I am not a fan of muffins but a nice little pitta sandwich with hummus and olives would do nicely.
