My Secret Kitchen – Product Review

Mmmn, so I was lucky enough to receive some fabulous products to sample from the lovely Sue at My Secret Kitchen, which is a UK-based ‘food-tasting’ company.  Their products are available on-line (click on the link above).  You can also host your very own home-tasting event during which a consultant will come along to showcase the ‘tasting menu’ or give a demonstration of a particular product, offer you all a taste and provide you with some top tips on how to enhance your cooking using My Secret Kitchen products.

The first thing I tried was the Miso Dressing with Ginger.  I remembered being almost hooked on a miso salad dressing while visiting my sister in the States, and though I always look out for new products over here, have never been able to anything that would work as an equivalent.  So, I was quite excited to try this dressing.

As an oil-free salad dressing, it really works.  It was silky and rich; you could definitely taste the ginger and soy.  The miso added a very subtle hint of flavour but still gave the sauce a little something extra.

The Miso Dressing with Ginger is also quite versatile;  the little leaflet that came along with the products suggests adding crunchy peanut butter and using it as a quick Satay sauce or mixing the dressing with honey and using it as a marinade for chicken, tofu or tuna.  I also thought that using it with salmon would work really well, and, as you can see from my photo below it made a quick and easy addition to a king prawn stir-fry!

Next I tried their Maple Caramel Sauce, which was a thick and creamy almost toffee-like sauce which can be drizzled over any dessert to make it look pretty, or over pancakes.  It didn’t take me long to take them up on that particular suggestion.  I served mine with Polish Apple Pancakes – below.  I would use the term ‘drench’ rather than ‘drizzle’ – it was truly decadent and more-ish!

Aside from putting it to good use in this way, you can also stir it into a latte for a maple caramel latte (very impressive) or mix it into rice pudding or custard to give puds and an additional flavour boost.

Other products in the My Secret Kitchen ‘tasting menu’ include a Thai Dressing with Kaffir Lime (again for salads, to mix with mayo as a dip, or as a marinade for seafood).  They have a terrific new product which is a Red Wine & Port Finishing Sauce designed to be added at the end of cooking as a finishing touch, to give your food a ‘restaurant’ finish.  The Jumping Jack Chilli Jam and Fig Pudding Pickle which would be delicious served alongside a cheeseboard apart from having many other interesting uses!

The range also includes mixes, for example, for making cheese balls, biscotti or brownies.  All the products in the tasting menu are made from recognisable ingredients.   Some of the products have won Gold ‘Great Taste’ awards, such as the Balsamic Reduction, Oak Smoked Rapeseed Oil and the Maple Caramel Sauce.  You can also find some tasty gift packs and hampers.

So, if you are interested in hosting a taste session or better yet, would like to join as a taste consultant – drop them a line!  They are nationwide and were a ‘Company of the year’ 2010 finalist for Mum and Working!

Thank you to Sue for sending me the products to try!

But the Dewalt DW745 table saw is a vital continuation
